Busch earned the pole with a lap of 138.387 mph in his Toyota, while JGR teammates Carl Edwards and Denny Hamlin earned the second and third positions, respectively, for Sunday’s race. It starts about 3:45 p.m. ET.

It’s the 18th career Sprint Cup pole for the driver of the No. 18 JGR car.

This is the second straight week a Busch has started on the pole. Kyle’s brother, Kurt, paced the field last week at Las Vegas and qualified fourth for the Good Sam 500.

Jimmie Johnson qualified fifth despite a scary incident that saw him smack into the Turn 2 wall in final-round qualifying. A six-time Sprint Cup champion, Johnson will use a backup car and start Sunday’s race at the rear of the field.
